Riding across Canada for MS July 16 – August 20, 2012

Coming up this summer WoA listener Christian Anderson will be riding across Canada in support of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada. Over the 35 day ride, he will be stopping in all major cities from coast to coast, and meeting with local MS societies and media (print, web, tv, radio), all while updating his website with photos and video of the trip. The ride starts July 16 in St. John’s NL, heading west to Victoria BC, and wrapping up in Edmonton AB on August 20, 2012.

For this podcast we are going to be doing something a little different. This podcast will be a live commentary of “The Sleep of Babies” from Season 1 episode 12.

So here is the plan. We will do a countdown and start the episode so everyone can watch along at the same time regardless of being there for the live show or not. During the viewing we’ll throw out some comments, invite some people in for short guest spots during the episode, relay some of the chartroom comments to those not there live and just have a fun time. There were a few people who suggested this so we are giving it a try.

You can find the episode at pretty much any video store I would think along with the option of streaming the episode via Netflicks, iTunes and Amazon. From what I saw Amazon has the cheapest price if you buy it, heres the link.

It picked up right where we left off the week before. Chewbacca taking down Darth Clay with two shots. Only before he could truly finish the job Han Teller shot the big guy right in his paw.

Bobby & Juicy were nowhere to be found and there was a rat in the Empire.

Tiggy felt guilty for blowing off Darth Clay’s call to arms and ended up possibly starting up whole new set of troubles for SAMCRO and shooting right into my top three picks for the death pool.

Princess Tara was crazy and wonderful demanding declarations of love. Darth Gemma was fierce and as conniving as ever. Convincing as she rained down a bucket of half truths on our tenderhearted Han Teller. The student outdid the teacher though as Tara revealed a contingency that provided one of the best moments of the entire series. Game ON!

NS is all about the love, baby. Jax and Tara morning love. Clay and Gemma morning love. Lila and Opie are getting married.And of course, Agent Stahl laughing as she feels the empty space in the bed next to her. What a psycho.

We get Gemma still trying to save Jax from his deal with Stahl, while Clay seems very non-chalant about everything she’s implying to him.

We get Jimmy O being uncharacteristically clueless right up until the moment he realizes he’s a goner.

Chuckie finally gets some love from the club. And saves the day.

We get a money for Jimmy exchange. Check.

We get a drive-off and give Jimmy to Tara to keep safe in the trunk of her car.

Check.

We get an exciting Russians chasing Samcro scene. Check.

Then, wait a minute, we get Stahl finding an empty van. That’s different. Oh, wait, that was just Jax making sure she signed the deal. And he signs his part. And he leads her back to the club house, just like we expected.

And what follows is damn genius. I can’t synopsize it. Sutter takes what appeared to be flaws and holes in this season’s writing and turns them into a giant, chilling, crime-syndicate style con that leaves you satisfied and

disturbed with the club all at the same time. So, watch it multiple times in the coming months, I know I will.

Everybody’s home. People die at Jax’s hand and

Stahl’s hand. Stahl turns out to be an even bigger psychopathic bitch than we ever dreamed. Opie proposes to Lila. Clay and Unser make up. Gemma and Unser make up. Jax and Tara make up. Jacob Hale gets a public relations win. Jimmy O gets some scary face time with some Russians–new bad guy next season? Cause I kinda like him. Jax presumably gives up the real IRA council to Stahl to save his mother. Oops. Tig and Kozak…don’t make up. But they do have some sweet one-on-one time on the swing set. There is a very exciting hostage standoff with some chasey-chasey, Look out for the axe, Jax!, and some pretty gratifying stabby-stabby. But at the end of it all, I found myself loving the tender moment with Tara and Abel, shocked as hell by everything to do with Stahl, and wondering what the hell Chuckie is ordering in paper boxes and if it’s going to help or hurt the club in the long run. Seems like everyone is lining up against SAMCRO, thanks to Jax, who’s trying to save them. Can he, or will it all backfire?

We always knew that Gemma trained Tara well, but she proves it again, as Margaret says “handling this well” by making a weapon and cutting a bitch. While she negotiates her boss’s freedom, she ends up failing to keep her hippocratic oath and gets herself in an even scarier situation with Salazar.Who by the way, the Scooby gang and Stahl with her keystone cops could have nabbed if they hadn’t been busy losing the ransom money to and then chasing a kid on a bicycle.

Gotta hand it to Stahl, tho, she’s trying to take care of business, even lying–or is she?–to her partner/lover about her deal with Jax and why they are involved with the club’s plan to free Tara secretly. With the whole Salazar thing comes the sad news that Lumpy has died, and Unser and the gang work out a plan to catch and expose Hale over a bottle of bottom-shelf scotch.

Meanwhile, back in Dublin, Jax & Trinity kiss and make up, as brother and sister this time. They head to the orphanage with orders for Gemma not to kill anyone. While she doesn’t kill anyone, she does take care of business both with the nuns, and with Jax later on when he tries to tell her he’s “given Abel up” after a musical interlude in a mall that includes a lot of stalking and the homeless girl

Instead of holding a gun to a baby’s head with Jax, tho, Gemma breaks her promise to Tara and let’s the other baby out of the bag. Abel’s new parents get killed by Jimmy O, who uses the boy to deal his way out of the country.

The priest gives himself up to save Abel. Awww. And Jax, who goes thru some weird f’d up emotions in this episode, promises his son, “I’ll never let anyone take you from me again.” Awww. Mo decides to stir the fire by adding JT’s old letters to the luggage, and everyone is happy to be going home until Jax gets a phone call from Tig. Reaper logo out.

We ain’t in Charming anymore as things get real, and everybody is out for blood. Jax’s suspicions of Liam are confirmed while McGee has second thoughts about going through with the plan to kill his SAMCRO brothers. Tensions explode (ha-ha, get it?) and body parts fly as the attempts to extinguish SAMCRO backfires. Gemma probably wants Kellan dead, and definitely wants Jimmy dead. Don’t mess with Fiona or you might end up dead, or at least cooter-punched. Jimmy wants SAMCRO dead, SAMCRO wants Jimmy dead, Tig and Kozik want each other dead, Salazar wants Tara dead in lieu of Jax, Eliot wants to kill Hale for his little dramatic interlude in the restaurant, Hale wants to crawl into a hole and die after he realizes getting into bed with Salazar is going to be the death of him. Hopefully we find out what’s with Margaret’s tattoos before she dies. Those bastards are definitely dead, and we’re not talkin’ about murdering a shite.

Things aren’t smooth at home either as Tara and Lyla make serious decisions about the future. Tig and Kozik play ‘my dick is bigger than yours’ since no one is really home to keep them in line. Chibs gets his girls back, and if you say you didn’t at least tear up at this, you’re lying. The prospect confirms our suspicions of being a giant pussy. Speaking of va-jay-jay, Gemma and Mo pay little attention to the horrifyingly incestuous flirting between Jax and Trinity, just to keep their secrets buried. Evil forces are at work in both Charming and Belfast, with Hale desperate to sell off Charming, at any cost, and Jimmy O and Kellan Ashby use their power for evil making this the biggest clusterfuck in progress yet. Trinity puts at least two cigarettes out during the episode, from people who’ve passed out while smoking, could be a foreshadowing that some major things or people are about to be extinguished.

The Walking Dead TV Podcast go get it and listen if you are going to be watching the AMC series as well. These guys are great and have read the graphic novels but they give you a little warning before any spoilers are released. Check them out and go leave them a iTunes review. Margaret gets pseudo-revenge on Tara with a necessary slap and the boys make it to the cargo jet by the skin of their teeth, sparing themselves of what could have been more than a wrist slap from Eliot.
